I bought my
first pair of P-mags (113 series) in 2006 and installed
them in my first Vans RV-7 which flew in July 2008 and now have about 170
hrs. At first, they
where running great, but during run-up one day, one of them misfired.
I taxied back in and checked timing and sure enough; the timing on one of
the mags was way off. I sent them both
in for upgrading according to the SB and since then they haven't
missed a single beat. During the
upgrade-procedure and shipping-time (it's a long shipping from Norway
to the US), Brad and his crew did an outstanding job! To reduce down-time for my
plane, he offered to swap P-mags with me and shipped an upgraded pair
right away and I shipped mine to him. That way, the two pair of P-mags
crossed each other somewhere over the Atlantic and down-time was
kept at minimum. I also like to
add another thing; I didn't know that the timing had failed on one of them
until the run-up. This means that the P-mag must have failed at some point
during the previous flight, but the other one continued to do it's job so
well that I didn't notice anything wrong! And most
important; The SB obviously took care of the timing problem because since
the upgrade, both P-mags have been doing a GREAT job! My engine,
an Extreme IO-360 built by Eagle Engines, starts on the second
or third blade every time, cold, warm or hot, and runs like a champ! I
lean to 50*F LOP during cruise without any problems at all and have a very
nice FF too! When you build
an airplane so far away from the US, it's very important that the
companies you deal with have good customer care, and I can truly say that
Brad and his crew are among the best! In fact; I'm so pleased with both
the P-mags and E-mag Air that I have bought another pair of E-mags (114
series this time) for my second RV-7 which will be done in approx 2
years. On one of the
pics, you'll see my plane parked on a frozen lake in a deserted mountain
terrain in Mars 2010 where my wife and me spent the weekend in a
nearby mountain hotel.. It's pretty important that the plane will start up
again when you're ready to go home, but I had total confidence that the
P-mags would fire up the 360 and get us home safely. The areas we
flew over on the way to the lake is mostly mountains and it's a
comforting feeling to trust the engine.... Since we got the
RV flying, the plane has taken the wifey and me to various
places in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, both on the mainland on different
islands and it's a nice feeling to trust the engine and the plane. Without
hesitation at all, I can recommend P-mags! Regards Alf Olav
