E-MAG Interactive Control And Display

  • A Configuration Resource

    • Tach signal can be set for one or two pulses per revolution.

    • Tach voltage can be set for 5 volts, 12 volts, or open collector output

    • A built in three color LED can be configured to signal different diagnostic states.

  • An Operational Resource

    • Advance Shift is a control that shifts the ignition's preloaded advance curve up and down (within preset limits). You can:

      • Monitor the current Advance Shift and the current (moment to moment) firing angle (degrees BTDC).

      • Change the Advance Shift setting while the engine running in order to dial in your preferred setting.

      • Store your preferred Advance Shift setting.  Storing a setting will overwrite and replace the factory default Advance Shift.

    • Status and Reporting

      • Firing angle.

      • RPM - This is a serial based signal, separate and apart from the tach output that is available on the connector plug.

      • Buss voltage (As seen by the ignition).  Can be used to determine if the ignition is operating on internal backup power (P models only).

      • Ignition firmware version.

      • RPM Limit- Your max rpm safety limit.  Above this rpm the ignition will suspend firing.

      • Maximum Advance. A ceiling you set that will cap the maximum advance firing angle, no matter what value may be used for Advance Shift.

  • Easy installation.

    • Simply connect your ignition to the serial port of your lap top or other serial device (three wires: transmit, receive, and ground) to E-MAG's control plug. A connection diagram (see below) appears when you click the "Connection Info" button on the EICAD screen.

    Note:

    1. The data leads (terminals 2 and 3) need to be shielded.  This shielding can also serve as the ground connection between the ignition (terminal 1) and the serial connector (terminal5).

    2. The ignition needs to be powered (12 volt) ON in order for EICAD to interact. You may need to select the appropriate COM port on the EICAD screen, depending on which version of EICAD you are using.

Keep It Simple - We are mindful that part of E-MAG's charm is its simplicity.  EICAD is NOT required for most installations.  Even so, EICAD is built-in to all current series ignitions, so it is there if and when the builder ever wants to use it
