I have been running E-Mag electronic ignitions for over five years
and almost 700 hours. My O320/160hp runs smoother, burns less fuel
and starts easier than it ever did with my old Slicks.
At higher altitudes of 17,000msl or more is where the difference is
very noticeable in the way of hotter spark and better overall engine
performance which equates to higher speed, better fuel burn and less hours
on my airframe.
E-Mag installation is a snap. Timing is so easy that my
“magneto” friends just shake their heads and smile. I ask them
“What’s a buzz box?” Manifold pressure connection and
operation are just as easy. As a side note, after switching to 14mm
NGK spark plugs, I never clean them. At $24 or so per box of 10, I
just replace them!
Thankfully, I have never had to rely on my P-Mags (I run two) but if
and when that becomes a necessity, I know my engine will continue to
operate normally for as long as it takes to find a suitable airport.
I will have the time and the confidence to fly longer if necessary rather
than ‘put it down’ somewhere less than optimal. Living in the
northwest, I routinely fly over forests and high mountain passes that are
not friendly places for emergencies to develop. I put my life on the
line using your products and am confident in their ability to perform.
The real point is that I don’t even think about my ignition any
more. I power up, turn the key, perform my pre-take off checks and
fly. Your ignitions do what they are supposed to do without fail.
Thank you for taking us from 1930’s technology to the 21st
century! When is the last time Detroit brought out a new vehicle
with magnetos? Even my lawn mower has electronic ignition!
