We replaced the Lasar ignition system on our Lancair
320 with dual P-Mags a few years ago. We now have over 570 hours on the
P-Mags and find them superior to the Lasar in every way. They are lighter,
less bulky and require no external box. We have found our P-Mags to be
dependable and economical. We place particular importance on dependability
due to our flying our Lancair over water a great deal. Our P-Mags have
powered us to the Bahamas many times, to Mexico 4 times, to Guatemala,
Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama as well as all over the US. We’re
planning to equip our Lancair IV with P-Mags as soon as the 6 cylinder
model is available. Bill & Sue Harrelson Update 11/11: Responding to user group inquiry... "We've been running p-mags on our 320 for about 1,400 hrs now. They improve efficiency, make for easy, quick starts (a blade or two), are lighter and smaller than traditional mags and have fewer moving parts. Being self powered, the "p" version can be installed in place of both mags without backup electric or extra batteries. It uses ships power for start and up to around 12-1400 rpm. Above that, it's internal alternator is the primary power with ships power being backup. We like ours and are in the queue for the 6 cylinder version for our IV." Bill Harrelson
