Martin's 900 hour report (2010) I installed one of your earliest P-Mags on my RV6 and later on two 113 series P-Mags on my RV7A when I built it in 2006. Between the two aircraft I have flow about 900hrs behind P-Mags now and loved the smooth and economical operation they have brought to both engines. The 7A engine is fuel injected and starts easily hot or cold. We have flown many long distance trips including from Texas to Anchorage and the P-Mags have proven to be smooth and reliable operators. Besides two free factory mandated upgrades they have required no maintenance at all. The recommended inexpensive automotive spark plugs show little wear and show no fouling after 200 hrs but I replace them at that interval because a new set of 8 at $16.-costs less than one aviation spark plug.
Martin's 100 hour report (2005 "ish") Hi Brad and Tom, My RV6 has been flying with the P-Mag for about 100 hrs now and I just have to tell you how impressed I am with it's performance. After the rather simple installation on my 180 HP RV6 I immediately noticed how much smoother my engine ran and how much easier it started. It did not take long to notice that I was also getting more performance. At the same power setting as before, (2350 RPM and 20" of MP) my true air speed increased by 4 MPH. I also suspected that my fuel burn had decreased but did not have a document able way to confirm that until now. We just returned from a 3000 mile trip to the northwest, an annual ritual for us since 1991 when we first flew the RV. For several years in a row we have been in company of friends with an RV6 with an IO-360 Lycoming. Every trip leg this fuel injected RV would burn about 1.5 gallons an hour less than our carbureted O-360, mainly because the injected engine can run lean of peak. This year however I was able to match his fuel burn. From this I conclude that the P-Mag has reduced my fuel consumption by at least a gallon per hour, a fact born out when I compared my figures from previous trips. We flew at altitudes up to 12,500 feet and the P-Mag ran smooth as silk and so far has never missed a beat. I am sold on this ignition and will install two P-Mags on the new RV7A I am building now. Thanks for building a better way to light the fires, Martin Sutter, RV6 with 2300 hrs
